The teaching staff of the 45th Elementary School of Patras, consisting of Principal Ms. Tsiligirian Ermioni, and teachers Ms. Anastasiou Anna, Georgia Lambropoulou, and Konstantina Ploumi, participated in a workshop in Guimar\u00e3es, Portugal, from May 5 to 7, 2026, as part of the European Erasmus+ Sport program \u201cWalk Around the Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program aims to promote physical activity, walking, and movement as means of enhancing health, cooperation, inclusion, and experiential learning, inspiring members of the school community to incorporate walking into their daily lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schools and organizations from Croatia, Serbia, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Cyprus, Turkey, and Greece participate as partners in the program\u2019s network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mobility took place with the warm hospitality of the \u201cAgrupamento de Escolas Santos Sim\u00f5es\u201d school, located in Guimar\u00e3es, Portugal, a school complex with a strong commitment to educational innovation and community involvement. It has extensive experience participating in international programs, with a focus on topics such as environmental sustainability, digital citizenship, and cultural heritage. His dedication to promoting active learning and fostering a sense of global responsibility in his students makes him a valuable partner for E-Walk, contributing significantly to the program\u2019s reach and impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 1: Welcome and Introduction to the City of Guimar\u00e3es<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the delegations from the partner countries gathered at the host school in Portugal, where they received a warm welcome and presentations from the school community. The teachers had the opportunity to learn about the school\u2019s educational system and activities through a tour of the facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was followed by a working meeting of the partners, during which they discussed the progress of the Erasmus+ Sport project \u201cWalk Around the Earth,\u201d the status of activities already carried out, and the planning of upcoming joint activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At noon, the delegations had lunch together, strengthening the spirit of cooperation and communication among the participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the afternoon, an official reception was held at Guimar\u00e3es City Hall, after which the participants toured the historic city center. They visited Toural Square, Oliveira Square, Santiago Square, Guimar\u00e3es Castle, and the Palace of the Dukes of Bragan\u00e7a\u2014monuments of exceptional historical and cultural value that are part of UNESCO\u2019s World Heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 2: Sustainability, Sports, and Connecting with Nature<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday, May 6, the partners participated in a workshop on environmental sustainability and the initiatives of \u201cGuimar\u00e3es Green Capital 2026,\u201d organized by Landscape Lab. Through presentations and discussions, the importance of environmental protection and the integration of more sustainable practices into daily life was highlighted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of particular interest was the visit to Guimagym, a model eco-sustainable sports facility, where participants learned about innovative practices that combine sports with respect for the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegations then visited Mount Penha and enjoyed the natural beauty of the area, went hiking, and had lunch in the forest. After lunch, they visited the city\u2019s stadium. Est\u00e1dio D. Afonso Henriques, a true gem of Guimar\u00e3es, is impressive in both its organization and atmosphere; it is home to the historic Vit\u00f3ria S.C., one of Portugal\u2019s most important teams. The day concluded with a farewell dinner at a traditional Fado restaurant, where the teachers had the opportunity to experience elements of Portuguese music and culinary traditions in a particularly warm and friendly atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 3: Olympic Values and Conclusion of the Meeting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Thursday, May 7, an interview and discussion took place with Tamila Holub, Olympic swimming champion and Ambassador of the Olympic Committee. The students and teachers were inspired by her athletic career and discussed the values of effort, perseverance, respect, and cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was followed by the final partners\u2019 meeting, during which the program\u2019s activities were evaluated, experiences were shared, and future goals and deliverables were defined. The meeting concluded with the presentation of participation certificates to the attendees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the group lunch, the delegations departed, having gained valuable experiences in collaboration, cultural exchange, and experiential learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
